Case study · Shopify Plus
Olive oil, wine and everything behind each order.
McEvoy Ranch sells olive oil and wine from its ranch in Marin: online, in its own shops and to wholesale buyers. We moved the store from Magento to Shopify Plus, and we run it today, along with the systems that turn each order into a shipped box.

Where it started
The Magento store had grown past what the team could manage. Wine shipping rules, a membership club, wholesale accounts and a warehouse feed were all custom code, so every change needed a developer. Magento was also close to the end of its support.
What we did
- 01
Moved to Shopify Plus without closing the store
A new theme, every product and customer moved over with their order history, saved cards carried to a new payment processor and the blog brought along. It launched in under eight months.
- 02
Connected everything behind the store
Subscriptions, the membership club, wholesale pricing, the registers in the ranch shops, email, sales tax and the inventory system that tells the warehouse what to ship. When one of them changes, we make sure the rest still line up.
- 03
Built what Shopify doesn't do
Three small apps of our own for gaps in the platform, and fixes for the places where two apps disagree, like a discount and a subscription in the same cart.
- 04
Made it easier to find
Search work on the products and recipes. A site search that puts the right olive oil first. And a monthly check on how often AI assistants recommend the brand.
A closer look
What runs behind the store.
Eight systems, one store. Every order touches several of them.
Where it stands
One team handles the store, the theme, the integrations and search. Seasonal launches are tested on a copy of the store before they go live. Staff have written guides and short videos for the everyday tasks.
