Case study · WordPress
An open-source site the team can change itself.
Zeek is an open-source network security monitor, sponsored by Corelight. We redesigned zeek.org in 2019 and have looked after it since. In 2026 we moved it to a new custom theme, so the team can update it without calling a vendor.

Where it started
The 2019 site ran on a page builder theme. As it aged, small changes took a developer. The theme itself was falling behind, too.
What we did
- 01
The 2019 redesign
A new homepage with a new header and footer, plus a site search. The blog moved over from its old home, with every old link redirected.
- 02
A move to a custom theme
We moved every page and post to the new theme and cleaned up the content along the way. Every link stayed the same through the switch.
- 03
Design for the community
Slide templates, Zeek Week shirts and mugs, and social graphics.
A closer look
Before and after the move.
Before
- A page builder theme from 2019
- Small changes needed a developer
- A theme that was falling behind
After
- A custom WordPress theme
- The team edits pages with blocks
- Every old link still works
